01 / What changed this time

He had already started. Then he got stuck.

Jessie and I have worked together before. But this time, we’ve had a really good run.

He had a wedding goal, his training was becoming consistent and his food was on point. By the time we sat down for this interview, he had also become our Season 12 champion. So the first thing I wanted to know was what had changed for him this time.

Jessie takes it back to the start of the year. He looked in the mirror, wasn’t happy with how he felt about his body, and decided to do something about it. He started eating better. He made some progress. Then he reached a weight he couldn’t seem to get past.

That was when he came back to me for advice on how to move forward. He wasn’t expecting to enter the challenge and win it. He wanted help getting beyond the point where he kept getting stuck.

That is a starting point plenty of people will recognise. You’ve made an effort. You’ve changed a few things. But you’re still trying to work out what comes next. For Jessie, coming back meant we could look at that together.

02 / The number that mattered

110 kg meant something to him.

In the interview, we talk about Jessie going from 117 kg to 110 kg during the challenge. Seven kilos lost. His body fat was coming down too, but when I asked which part of his progress mattered most, he came straight back to that 110 kg goal.

He had thought it was unachievable, especially from 117 kg. In our training together, 113 kg had been a sticking point before. This time, at the final weigh-in, he reached 110.0 kg exactly.

And he was rapt.

Winning the challenge was a great result. Reaching a goal he had genuinely doubted he could reach gave that win its meaning. When you hear him talk about it, you can see why I wanted to share his story.

03 / The work around the goal

A plan he could keep following.

Jessie trained with me twice a week, with a regular Friday weigh-in during one of those sessions. Around PT, he kept using the app and following his broader program.

With food, we worked to a calorie target and an accountable protein target. His compliance was good enough that we essentially kept those parameters the same throughout the challenge.

His weight didn’t drop perfectly every single week. Some weeks it moved noticeably. Some weeks it barely moved, or went slightly up. But the overall direction was taking us where we wanted to go.

For Jessie, that meant we could keep following the plan instead of changing everything after one flat week. The training, the food and the check-ins had somewhere to lead. By the end, he had reached the goal we had been working towards.

04 / Progress you notice elsewhere

Then the wardrobe needed changing.

There is another part of Jessie’s answer that I liked. After talking about reaching 110 kg, he mentions needing an entire wardrobe change.

That is something you notice away from a weigh-in. The clothes you reach for every day start fitting differently. The result becomes part of ordinary life.

We talk about points and kilos a lot during a challenge. Hearing what somebody notices outside the gym gives those numbers some context. For Jessie, the wardrobe was one of those signs that the work was adding up.

05 / Lifechoice Fitness

The faces changed. The feeling didn’t.

Lily passed on the next question: what do you enjoy most about training at Lifechoice? Jessie’s answer was the community.

He had trained here four years earlier. Coming back, there were new people around, but he felt the same welcoming atmosphere. People smiled when he walked in. They were willing to help. And, according to Jessie, the music was still on point.

That matters to me. You can have a goal and a program, but enjoying the place you train is a part of the experience worth recognising too. Jessie’s answer says a lot about the people around him at Lifechoice.

“For me, it’s the community.”

06 / Jessie’s question for the next client

When did you notice your progress?

To finish each Spotlight, I ask the client to leave a question for the next person. Jessie wanted to know about a moment outside the gym when they realised they were making progress.

It was a good way to finish this conversation. He had just spoken about reaching a goal he thought was out of reach, needing new clothes and enjoying being part of the gym again.

Jessie finished Season 12 with 1,020 points and the title. But this interview gives you the person behind that result: someone who got stuck, asked for a bit more guidance, and kept doing the work.

A very deserving winner. And a goal he can now say he has reached.
