C.U.Z. Method — Powerbuilding I: Control the Load
Build the strength. Build the muscle. Learn how to handle both. Control the Load opens the C.U.Z. Method Powerbuilding progression with eight weeks of strength-focused compound lifting, targeted hypertrophy and athletic capacity.
Build your capability
What you’ll build through the progression
I · Control the Load
Practise bracing, repeatable technique and judging effort through RPE-guided work.
Notice your progress: Record the load and how demanding the set felt, then compare like-for-like sessions.
II · Build the Zone
Build the capacity for more demanding strength and hypertrophy work.
Notice your progress: Discuss whether your lifting quality and recovery support the next increase in workload.
III · Own the Zone
Bring your preparation and execution together for advanced powerbuilding.
Notice your progress: Review performance across the training block with Sean, rather than judging progress from one heavy session.
Use these observations in your check-ins. Progress can mean better control or consistency as well as more weight or reps. Choose your next stage with Sean based on your technique, recovery and confidence.
Your training commitment
- Duration
- 8 weeks
- Training days
- 4 / week
- Split
- Upper Power · Lower Hypertrophy · Lower Power · Upper Capacity
- Extra cardio
- Optional / goal dependent
Starting level: Intermediate / experienced
Included features: 2 × 4-week phases · RPE progression · Weekly technical cues · Athletic output
Your training setup
Approximately 45–65 minutes per session. Two four-week phases with strength and hypertrophy as the primary goals.
Commercial gym with barbells, dumbbells, cables, machines and standard strength-training equipment.
Your four-workout split
Workout 1 — Upper Power: Controlled Zone. Primary strength exposure through pressing, supported by upper-back, shoulder and triceps development.
Workout 2 — Lower Hypertrophy. Squat-led volume builds the muscular base, work capacity and lower-body strength required for heavier training.
Workout 3 — Lower Power. Deadlift-focused strength training is supported by upper-back, grip, trunk and posterior-chain work.
Workout 4 — Upper Capacity. Hypertrophy-focused pressing, pulling and accessories expand upper-body capacity without excessive systemic fatigue.
Each session has a distinct role. Training demands and exercise selection evolve in the second phase.
Weeks 1–4 — The Control Phase
Learn to control strength before chasing it. Strength work remains controlled and submaximal while volume develops muscle and work capacity.
Weekly technical cues evolve alongside the programming. Positioning, bracing, repeatable technique, controlled hypertrophy and fatigue management prepare you for increased loading.
Weeks 5–8 — Load the System
Now the foundation gets tested. Strength exposure becomes heavier, with volume layered strategically after primary work and contrasting stimuli across the week.
Strength-and-volume combinations, harder assistance work and a dedicated lower-body output session introduce speed and athletic intent without simply adding more heavy squatting or deadlifting. Maintain control as the demands increase.
What makes this powerbuilding?
Progressively loaded compound movements develop force production. Targeted bodybuilding volume builds the muscular structure supporting those lifts and the physique to match.
Primary strength work, hypertrophy, assistance training, athletic output and recovery demands each have a defined role across the week.
Controlled · Unbreakable · Zone
Build enough control to handle load, enough capacity to withstand progression, and the ability to perform where strength and muscle can keep advancing.
Every four-week progression includes evolving set and rep prescriptions, RPE targets and technical cues to develop the lifter alongside the numbers.
Training methods
RPE-guided loading · Progressive strength exposure · Strength and back-off volume contrast · Hypertrophy accessories · Tempo and technical control · Unilateral training · Loaded carries and trunk work · Athletic output and velocity work · Weekly evolving technical cues.
Methods follow the purpose of each workout.
Who it’s for
An intermediate or experienced gym lifter who wants structured strength and physique training, better technical execution and an understanding of why the training is programmed this way.
If you are completely new to resistance training, start by discussing a foundation program with Sean.
What you get
Eight weeks of app-delivered workouts, evolving weekly prescriptions, technical coaching cues, RPE guidance, workout-specific education and coaching/check-in support.
A program-specific completion check-in helps assess strength development, recovery, load tolerance and readiness for the next stage.
The complete Powerbuilding system
Bronze I — Control the Load: establish the system.
Silver II — Build the Zone: increase complexity, loading and strength/hypertrophy exposure.
Gold III — Own the Zone: advanced powerbuilding, block periodisation and strength expression.
Progress as your strength, experience and recovery capacity develop. Ask Sean about access to later stages.
